Who is Orrie?
Hi! Thank you for trying to find out more about me.
A bit of background
I'm originally from Brookside, New Jersey, a small town in northern
New Jersey within Morris County .
It is about 35 minutes away from NYC and is actually a fairly nice
state (despite what most people say :) but I just had to leave and get out...so
now you can find me in the great city of Boulder, Colorado.

What am I doing now?
I graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder in December of 1995 with a B.S. in Computer Science Engineering
and started pursuing a masters degree in Telecommunications in the fall of
1997 while continuing to work full time for
UnixOps , a division within the
Information Technology Services.
We provided software and hardware support for over 400 UNIX workstations
throughout the campus, primarily for instructional and research computer
labs as well as standalone computer used by professors and researchers.
I moved on in May of 1999 and went to work for a small company, Global Commerce Systems, based
in Broomfield, Colorado where I worked as a Senior Information
Security Administrator. We provided B2B services for several large
companies including Sprint and Wells Fargo as well as PKI services.
I was the technical lead for our
Identrus project in which we were the second company to reach
Identrus compliance.
In August of 2001, I decided that it was a good time for me to leave
Global Commerce and work towards the completion of my masters degree
in Telecommunications. So, I am now back at the University of Colorado, Boulder
and working again at UnixOps
. My focus and interest is still in computer security,
specifically in network security design, as well as heading the
initiative to provide Linux and FreeBSD support to the campus
community. My research focus was the affect CISP, now known as PCIDSS, has on the VISA service providers.
Free Time?
Even though I may be a computer scientist, contrary to popular
belief I do not spend my entire time in front of a computer screen.
When I'm not typing away, you can either find me in the kitchen
creating a new fantastically tasting macrobiotic dish, on
the slopes of the Rocky mountains, in the gym, or biking around the
many great off-road trails here in Boulder. Here are some of the mountain areas
with my friends. I've also started rock climbing which I discovered
is a blast! Here
is James and I on the 1st flatiron. Here and here are a couple
other random first flatiron shots. I'm also an amateur photographer
(maybe I'll post some photos here in the near future) as well as a
music buff (I've always thought that keeping up with the new music
scene keeps ya young, though none of it comes close to the music
of Floyd :)
